A series of food security workshops for Welsh food and drink manufacturers has been launched thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s HELIX Programme.
Taking place between June and September at ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre at Cardiff Metropolitan University, the series of workshops will look at key food security topics for technical professionals.
As vital members of the supply chain, food and drink manufacturers have an important role to play in food security by ensuring the continued availability of raw materials and products for the wider population.
The workshops will cover the following topics:
- Specifications – 17 June 2025
- Raw Material Risk Assessment, Testing and Supplier Management – 1 July 2025
- Food Defence – 8 July 2025
- Vulnerability Assessment and Horizon Scanning – 17 July 2025
- Incident Management – 4 September 2025
- Root Cause Analysis – 16 September 2025
Depending on company size and eligibility, attendance at these workshops can be partially or fully funded. Whilst the workshops form a series, delegates can attend individual workshops to suit their business needs.
Speaking about the training events, Professor David Lloyd, Director of ZERO2FIVE, said:
“At a time when global food security is of utmost importance, food manufacturers are being tasked to ensure continued availability, affordability and safety of raw materials and products. A key consideration for any food and drink technical professional, our series of workshops will cover a range of important topics.
“These events form part of a wider range of funded food security support that we can offer to food and drink manufacturers through the Welsh Government’s HELIX Programme. To find out more about the support we can offer, we’d encourage you to get in touch.”
The HELIX Programme is delivered by four organisations across Wales and provides a range of funded technical and innovation support to Welsh food and drink companies.
