Success story: Mallows Bottling Ltd

Background

Based in Rhondda Cynon Taff, Mallows Bottling Ltd is Wales’s largest spirits and soft drink contract bottler. The multi-award-winning company partners with major brands and retailers, with services spanning from product development to warehouse logistics and supply chain management.

Mallows Bottling Ltd has held BRCGS certification since 2024 and approached ZERO2FIVE when they were looking for support with maintaining the standard. One of the world’s leading food safety certification schemes, BRCGS enables manufacturers to demonstrate that they are operating to industry-recognised food safety standards, and as a result, supply their products to national and regional retailers, wholesalers and foodservice providers.

Support from ZERO2FIVE

ZERO2FIVE delivered a series of internal audits, diagnostics and mentoring  against the requirements of the BRCGS standard, focusing on fundamental clauses such as HACCP, senior management commitment, site standards and process control, as well as additional clauses such as food defence, staff facilities and personal hygiene.

Improvements to the food safety management system identified during the audits resulted in tailored, one‑to‑one mentoring for the company’s Quality Assurance Technician, developing their knowledge, skills and technical capability. The bespoke site activities supported them to develop a comprehensive action plan ahead of their upcoming BRCGS audit. ZERO2FIVE also continuously engaged  with Mallows Bottling Ltd’s senior leadership team to review industry best practice and agree on corrective actions, along with clear timescales for implementation.

Mallows Bottling Ltd received their BRCGS audit in February 2026 and they passed with an AA grade. Following the audit, ZERO2FIVE supported the company to close out any non-conformances.

Benefits of the support

Maintaining their BRCGS certification has enabled Mallows Bottling Ltd to continue to supply their existing customers who require the standard as well as to initiate discussions with two more supermarkets. As a result, Mallows Bottling has safeguarded 22 jobs within the business and created 6 additional jobs.

ZERO2FIVE has subsequently supported the company in developing a bespoke12‑month internal audit schedule, ensuring each audit focuses on a different key area of the BRCGS standard. A programme of further mentoring  and continuous improvement is also planned for Mallows Bottling Ltd’s Quality Assurance Technician, concentrating on the fundamentals of the BRCGS standard, including internal auditing, traceability, and management commitment.

Abby Mallows, Quality Assurance Technician, Mallows Bottling Ltd, said:

“Over the past year, ZERO2FIVE has provided invaluable support to Mallows Bottling Ltd through a programme of structured internal audits and technical guidance. Their team has worked closely with us to review our systems against BRCGS Food Issue 9 requirements, challenge our existing practices, and identify practical, risk-based improvements. The internal audits have not only strengthened our quality management system but have also helped embed a stronger Good Manufacturing Practice culture across the site.

“ZERO2FIVE’s clear, pragmatic support, and audit-ready approach have given us greater confidence ahead of customer and certification audits, supporting our continuous improvement journey and reinforcing our commitment to food safety and quality excellence’’
