New Product Development Workshop: Legal Labelling Requirements
Please note – registration for this event is only available for new and existing food and drink manufacturers based in Wales, not for related organisations, consultants or students.
Who can attend
Our series of New Product Development workshops are introductory level sessions which are targeted towards early-stage businesses and start-ups.
4. New Product Development – Legal Labelling Requirements
Once you have developed a safe product and finalised the recipe, you will need to think about the information that will be printed on the packaging and what legislation must be complied with.
In this workshop we will navigate the list of mandatory labelling requirements using simple explanations and demonstrations. We will also highlight other voluntary information you may want to include and what to consider if you want to make nutritional or health claims. Key areas covered include:
• What is the difference between a legal name, customary name and descriptive name?
• How to write an ingredient list using your recipe
• What is a QUID and how should you use it?
• Allergen labelling
• Imagery on pack and provenance claims
• Nutritional labelling and exemptions
• Storage and cooking instructions
• When to use Best Before or Use By
• Minimum font size for your packaging size
This workshop would be beneficial for companies writing a food label for the first time. Perhaps you are a start-up and have a new product to bring to market, or you may have an established business and product range but are expanding into a prepacked format.
These interactive workshops will be held at ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre in Cardiff.
Whilst these workshops form a series, you can attend individual workshops to suit your business needs.
Attendance costs
Depending on your company size and eligibility, attendance at these workshops can be partially or fully funded.
The cost for each delegate attending the workshop will vary depending on the size of the company they work for. This is determined by Welsh Government funding regulations.
In the workshop registration form, you will be asked to provide company Subsidy Control information for the past three years and confirm the size of your company. Please refer to your finance business team to ensure this information is accurate as it may be subject to audit.
