Please note – registration for this event is only available for new and existing food and drink manufacturers based in Wales, not for related organisations, consultants or students.

Who can attend

Our series of New Product Development workshops are introductory level sessions which are targeted towards early-stage businesses and start-ups.

5. New Product Development – Basic Sensory Awareness

Sensory assessment of food and drinks products can be used to inform many aspects of new product development and ongoing product quality assessment. This introductory level workshop aims to give an overview of the five human senses used to undertake sensory evaluation, consider how and when sensory evaluation could be used within the NPD process to engage consumers and provide feedback to inform product development, and includes a basic practical exercise* to test your detection of the five basic taste stimuli.

In this introductory workshop an overview of key areas will include:

• Basic sensory principles

• The five basic senses

• Different types of sensory test methods

• Basic taste detection

This workshop is useful for anyone thinking about undertaking consumer taste testing or looking to introduce taste panels to their product testing methods.

*This exercise will include caffeine

These interactive workshops will be held at ZERO2FIVE Food Industry Centre in Cardiff.

Whilst these workshops form a series, you can attend individual workshops to suit your business needs.
